A Great Audience Member Kevin Williamson, A Roving...

How to be a Great Audience Member! Kevin Williamson, a roving correspondent for the National Review magazine and theater critic for The New Criterion, attended a performance of a new cabaret-type musical named â€Å"War and Peace†, written by â€Å"Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812.† While Mr. Williamson was at the musical he was seated on a bench next to a woman who was impolitely using her phone throughout the musical. Mrs. Williamson asked the young woman if she would mind putting away her cell phone during the musical because it was becoming a distraction. She rudely told Mr. Williamson â€Å"So don’t look† and â€Å"to mind his own business.† After boiling with anger, Williamson took the cellphone out of her hands and threw it into some curtains. Williamson is now being called a hero for taking a stand against a disrespectful and inconsiderate audience member (Signore). Audiences are comprised of individuals gathered together at a certain time and place at a public e vent, such as a play, movie, concert, or meeting. As a member of an audience, each individual is expected to be respectful to the audience and the performers until after the event has concluded by arriving early, no use of electronics, and remaining silent. Highlands Little Theatre, located in Sebring, FL, suggests to their audiences that before they decide to buy a ticket for a performance they need to go take a look at theatre etiquette on their website. The website lists rights, responsibilities, roles, and

The scholarships covered tuition only and Richard was forced to decline them because he would be unable to afford the cost of living while away at school.†¦show more content†¦Richard Nixon spent the next five years of his life in political wilderness. However he captured the Republican nomination for President in 1968. Lyndon B. Johnson the current President announced his withdraw from re-election, and Richard Nixon be came the 35th President of the United States. He ran and won again in 1972 and then resigned on August 8,1974 because of the Watergate Scandal. One of Nixons best plans for reforming the welfare program was his Family Assistance Program (FAP). Under this program the federal government was to recognize a responsibility for meeting the welfare program on the national scale. Mr. Nixon originally proposed that a family of four should receive $1,600 dollars a year in 1969. Then in 1971 he raised the allowance up to $2,400 dollars a year. The Work Incentive Program (WIN) of 1971 was to provide incentives and allowances to the working poor and help bring their income level up to the federal level. The working recipients would be able to earn additional income without reducing their welfare allowance. Job training and day care facilities were to be greatly expanded (HOFF, 131-133). States were expected to supplement this amount and all able-bodied heads of recipient families were t o accept work or training. Exception would be made to mothers with pre-school aged children. Night Creature Crescent Moon Chapter 23 Free Essays

A quick trip to the Intranet revealed that Arianna Beasly’s in-laws owned a home in the Garden District, while her family, the Favreaus, still lived in the French Quarter. The calendar might read century twenty-one, but in New Orleans the old ways prevailed. The original Favreaus had come to Louisiana before the area’s purchase was a gleam in Thomas Jefferson’s eye. We will write a custom essay sample on Night Creature: Crescent Moon Chapter 23 or any similar topic only for you Order Now Back then, the upper-crust French resided in the Quarter, eventually the Spanish did, too. However, when the Americans showed up, they were shunned miserably. Kind of like what happens in France today. Being Americans, they’d taken their filthy money and built the American Quarter, which began in the business district and stretched into what is now known as the Garden District Americans – gotta love ’em. Bigger is always better, and if we can’t buy what we want, we’ll just build what we want and call it superior to the original. Mrs. Beasly would be considered a Creole, a descendant of Europeans born in the colonies. That and the family residence in the high tax bracket of the Quarter explained the crypt at St. Louis Cemetery Number One. No doubt the Beaslys owned a crypt in the more modern Lafayette Cemetery Number One, which bordered the Garden District. Perhaps Arianna had chosen to be buried with her side of the family. Not uncommon. Around here, where you were buried was almost as big of a deal as where you were born. At any rate, Cassandra and I rang the bell at a gorgeous nineteenth-century home on Burgundy Street. The door was opened by a tiny, wizened old lady sporting a ferocious scowl. â€Å"We do not have ghosts, good day.† She began to slam the door, but I blurted, â€Å"We came to talk about Mrs. Beasly.† The woman hesitated, blinking through thick bifocals. Considering the murky state of her gray eyes, her cataracts were the problem, not her prescription. â€Å"You’re friends of Arianna’s?† â€Å"Yes,† Cassandra answered before I could say, Not really. Cassandra shot me a silencing glare as the elderly woman invited us inside. â€Å"I’m sorry I was rude, but there are stories about this house, and all those damnable ghost walk tours stop outside and stare at us. Some rude people even ring the doorbell and ask to see the room where it happened.† â€Å"Where what happened?† I asked. â€Å"The murder, of course.† â€Å"Of course,† Cassandra said. The woman tottered to her chair, and Cassandra took the opportunity to whisper, â€Å"There’s always a murder or a ghost around here. That’s not what we came for.† True. If we got started on the ghost stories in the French Quarter, we’d never get to the werewolves. â€Å"You seem awfully young to know my Arianna.† She motioned for us to take seats nearby. â€Å"She was your†¦Ã¢â‚¬ I hesitated. This woman resembled Mrs. Beasly around the eyes and mouth, but was she a sister, an aunt, a mother? Once people bit ancient I was no good at determining their generation. â€Å"Granddaughter. I’m Marie Favreau.† â€Å"Ma’am.† I nodded respectfully, earning a small smile. â€Å"Mrs. Beasly and I met at the library. I was sorry to hear about her†¦ accident.† Mrs. Favreau’s lips lost the smile and pressed together as if she wanted to keep the words inside. But she couldn’t â€Å"That was no accident† Cassandra and I exchanged glances. â€Å"How so?† Cassandra asked. Mrs. Favreau looked around, then beckoned us closer. â€Å"We wouldn’t have buried her so quickly, without benefit of a church service, if we were only talking about a dog.† â€Å"What are we talking about?† I asked. She made an odd motion with her arthritic fingers – half sign of the cross, kind of an FU. I wasn’t sure what to do. â€Å"Protection against evil,† Cassandra murmured. Mrs. Favreau considered her with a contemplative expression. â€Å"You know the old ways.† â€Å"Oh yeah.† â€Å"Then you know why we stuffed her mourn with monkshood and drew a pentagram on her chest† Mrs. Favreau continued. â€Å"Monkshood?† I asked. â€Å"Wolfsbane,† Cassandra translated. That made sense. I guess. Of course I hadn’t seen anything in Mrs. Beasly’s mouth but teeth and hadn’t gotten a gander at her chest. Considering she was ashes, I’d have to take Granny’s word for it. â€Å"Loup-garou,† Mrs. Favreau whispered, and made the sign of the FU again. Now we were getting somewhere. â€Å"The bitten must be encased in cement and properly prepared or they’ll rise and walk as a wolf,† she continued. â€Å"I’m afraid she rose anyway,† Cassandra said gently. I wondered how long we’d had before Mrs. Beasly turned into a wolf. Now we’d never know. Mrs. Favreau went white. â€Å"She’ll come for me. She’ll know I’m the one who had her buried that way.† â€Å"Relax,† I said. â€Å"She’s dead for good this time. Shot with silver, we think.† The woman slouched in her chair, shaking fingers pressed to her mouth. â€Å"Thank you.† â€Å"Wasn’t us.† â€Å"That doesn’t matter as long as she’s truly dead. She wasn’t Arianna anymore.† Remembering Mrs. Beasly’s sharp teeth and propensity for drooling, I had to agree. â€Å"What do you know of the loup-garou?† I asked. â€Å"Only the legend.† â€Å"You’ve never seen a werewolf?† She closed her eyes, took a breath, then opened them again. â€Å"We take care to bury certain bodies in certain ways so the dead don’t walk.† â€Å"What ways?† â€Å"If a person is killed by an animal, monkshood and a pentagram.† â€Å"Any animal?† I pressed. â€Å"Not just canine?† She stared at me over the tops of her glasses, and despite the murky cataracts, I could swear she saw right through me. â€Å"The wolf creates the werewolf. Other animals create other monsters.† Other monsters? Terrific. â€Å"One problem at a time,† Cassandra murmured. I must have been hyperventilating. â€Å"What else?† I asked. â€Å"If there is suspicion of vampirism, garlic and a cross. Salt for zombies. If you think their spirit may walk, bury the dead with Apache tears.† I glanced at Cassandra for clarification again. I wasn’t disappointed. â€Å"Obsidian,† she said. Mrs. Favreau sniffed. â€Å"Better safe than sorry.† â€Å"Do the methods usually work?† What I really wanted to know: Was there something special about Arianna Beasly that had made her rise despite the precautions? Or did all the bitten do so, but no one ever knew? â€Å"I never had occasion to try the practice until now.† â€Å"What about your friends?† Cassandra asked. â€Å"An acquaintance of mine was forced to bury her husband with garlic and a sixteenth-century crucifix made in Provence.† â€Å"And that worked?† I leaned forward in my chair. â€Å"Her husband stayed dead?† â€Å"I assume so.† â€Å"Could I speak with her?† â€Å"She fell off her balcony a few days later. Broke her neck.† Uh-oh. â€Å"Anyone else?† â€Å"A dear Mend’s child was bitten by a rat.† Mrs. Favreau frowned. â€Å"My Mend had a heart attack not long after.† Another nasty pattern. I had a sneaking suspicion that those who’d been the recipients of the â€Å"precautions† visited the ones who’d imposed them as soon as they became undead. Lucky for Mrs. Favreau her granddaughter had exploded in a burning ball of fire. Lucky for us all, I was thinking. Note to self – leave off the monkshood, garlic, salt, obsidian, and pentagrams. They didn’t work anyway. Silver, on the other hand, might be useful. â€Å"Mother.† Another tiny white-haired woman stood in the doorway. She bustled in, casting Cassandra and me a curious glance. â€Å"Isn’t it time for your nap?† â€Å"I’ll be napping forever soon enough,† Mrs. Favreau grumbled. â€Å"I was just visiting with some Mends of Arianna’s.† The newcomer’s face fell. â€Å"My little girl.† Though I knew Arianna Beasly had a mother, everyone did, it hadn’t occurred to me I’d meet her today. Although why it hadn’t, since I was speaking with Arianna’s grandmother, I wasn’t quite sure. To have three generations alive at the same time is achievement enough. To have them alive at this age was pretty darned amazing. Of course they weren’t all alive anymore. â€Å"We’re sorry for your loss,† I said, feeling keenly how useless those words were. â€Å"Thank you,† she said, though she didn’t look grateful. She looked a little pissed. â€Å"Now I have to get Mother some lunch and a nap. She isn’t as young as she used to be.† I wanted to ask how old she was, how old they both were, but I didn’t dare. Such questions would be considered rude even above the Mason-Dixon Line. Down here, I just might find myself drawn and quartered. â€Å"Don’t worry, Anne.† The older woman patted the younger on the hand. â€Å"Arianna is at peace.† She tottered toward the door, stopping in the entryway. â€Å"Someone shot her with silver. She went kaboom.† Silence settled over us as Mrs. Favreau disappeared down the hall. Uncertain of what to expect, I cast a cautious glance toward the other woman. â€Å"My mother-in-law’s a little – † She twirled one finger around her ear in the universal hand signal for nuts. â€Å"Really?† Cassandra murmured. â€Å"She was telling you the werewolf story, right?† I stilled. â€Å"That’s not true?† Anne gave a short bark of laughter. â€Å"You believed her?† Cassandra made a staying motion with her hand when I would have spoken. â€Å"We shouldn’t have?† â€Å"This might be New Orleans, but that doesn’t mean we’re all lunatics. My daughter was not bitten by a werewolf.† â€Å"OK,† Cassandra said. â€Å"Then why did you bury her so fast?† Anne’s laughter died and something nickered in her eyes before she turned and headed for the front door. We had little choice but to follow. I guess our welcome had runout. To my surprise, as we filed onto the porch she answered the question. â€Å"We buried Arianna so quickly because my mother-in-law insisted. She was hysterical. It was easier to do as she wanted.† The door closed behind us. Cassandra and I stood in the brutal afternoon sun until someone said, â€Å"Psst† Marie Favreau beckoned from the corner of me house. ‘I did see a werewolf once,† she whispered as we joined her. â€Å"I was a child. My papa took me to Mardi Gras. We were coming home and down an alleyway I saw a man and his dog. My papa said the man had drunk too much wine, so he was resting, with his good friend Mr. Dog to watch over him.† She passed a frail, shaking hand over her eyes, as if she were seeing it all again. â€Å"Then Mr. Dog began to eat the man’s face. I screamed and the animal glanced up. He was not a dog.† â€Å"A wolf.† â€Å"Yes. But that’s not why I screamed and screamed as my papa scooped me into his arms and ran with me all the way home.† â€Å"Mother!† Anne’s voice came from the rear of the house. â€Å"Where are you?† â€Å"I have to go,† she said. â€Å"Wait† I reached out, and she tilted her head expectantly. â€Å"Why did you scream?† â€Å"The eyes.† A chill went over me, which was downright amazing considering the blistering heat of the sun. â€Å"I don’t understand.† â€Å"I mink you do.† She glanced over her shoulder, men back. â€Å"Though the form may be that of a wolf, a werewolf always retains its human eyes.† How to cite Night Creature: Crescent Moon Chapter 23, Essay examples

Organization Behavior Employees Workplace â€Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Organization Behavior Employees Workplace? Answer: Introducation Organizational behavior refers to the study of human behavior in an organization. it relates to the way in which a person interacts, think and possess their views in front of other people in a management culture is called organization behavior. Further, the essay provides an overview of the organization behavioral aspects with regards to change in the attitude of a person. It also tells about the significant differences between the job satisfaction and organizational commitment of an employee's towards their particular organization and its impact on the organization (Gelfand, et. al., 2017). Further, it also tells about how a manager shall determine the significance of organizational commitment in an organization. Attitude influence the nature of people in the management process of the organization. If an employee develops a negative attitude towards other colleagues in an organization, then the behavior of that particular person will also affect the behavior of other people as well. Thus, it shall be noted that behavior is an important aspect which effectively contributes to the determination process of the workplace environment. The attitude of an employee is the most important factor which drives the behavior of an employee in an organization. Thus, in an organization, the management shall look after the attitudinal change of an employee which ultimately results in changing the efficiency of that person to work positively or negatively (Organ, 2017). So, it shall be understood that the attitude of a person is based on their past and personal experiences. A positive attitude helps the person to gain many new and efficient experiences in an organization. Therefore, it is said that the manager needs to evaluate and observe the behavior of its employees in order to analyze the success of the management of the organization. further the organizational behavior theory explained by Martin Fishbein states that there is a solid relationship between the behavior and attitude of a person in an organization which provides two consequence in which the manager shall notice things such as, change in both attitude and behavior in the social situation and evaluation of the level of attitude and behavior in specific situations (Kanfer, Frese, Johnson, 2017). Some of the factors which contribute to the development or change in the attitude of people which are peers, prejudices, family, social adjustment function etc. All these are the given factors which affect the behavior of a people in an organization. The potential and competency of an employee to perform particular task is determined by their attitude and behavior. Thus, it shall be noted that employee with the positive attitude is promoted first in the organization. Also, it helps in reducing the negativity. The target of the organization is only achieved when people aim to reduce the negativity and spread positivity in the attitude of people prevailing in the environment (Suwati, Minarsih, Gagah, 2016). Just like positive attitude affects the working of an employee similarly, negative attitude adversely affect the state and position of an employee in an organization management. Thus, it shall be noted that with this effect the whole employee efficiency is changed in an organizatio n due to which efficiency of the organization in the global environment. Further talking about the usefulness of an employee in an organization is that the demand of an employee in the market depends upon their behavior in the workplace. Thus, it is said that always create a positive attitude towards every new thing happening in the organization. The goal which an individual wants to achieve during their job can be achieved only with positive attitude and adoption of positive behavior (Sundarminingsih, Minarsih, Wulan, 2016). Attitudes are the most crucial part of the individual to initiate success in their job profile. As attitude affects the performance of employees in an organization due to which the collective environment in an organization also changes. Thus, it can be said a positive attitude of the workforce can create positivity in the whole organizational culture as well. With this process, the success in the organization is also achieved. Further talking about the both professional and personal life, attitude of a person determines its growth a nd success. The activities which a person performs highly are influenced by their attitude only, also the personality and characteristics traits which a person adhere are built by the attitude of a person only (Naburi, et. al., 2017). The attitude in simple words can be regarded as the response which a person gives in different types of situations. Therefore positive attitude helps them in better understanding things and achieving the desired goals whereas negative attitude of a person will initially demotivate them and lead them in the wrong direction; due to which they will get distracted from their goals and objectives. Also, the financial success and wealth of an organization also depend upon the behavior of the employees of the organization. Right and positive attitude will lead the organization towards success whereas negative attitude will reduce the efficiency of the organization. Along with the attitude, there are many other factors existing in the management of the organiz ation which affects the growth and culture of the organization such as job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Job satisfaction is one of the frequently measure term which is an indicator of the workplace environment (Schrock, et. al., 2016). Organizational citizenship, absenteeism, and turnover are some of the factors which predict the behavior of the individual in terms of job satisfaction. Further, it shall be noted that job satisfaction is the self-assessment and experience level which an individual receives in their particular job. Some of the factors on which job satisfaction depends are compensation, superior support, working environment, job security etc. Salary is the most important motivating factor for an individual in their job. Higher the remuneration, better the employee will work. Thus, the biggest motivation factor an individual which provide them job satisfaction is the remuneration which they get paid from the organization (Weer Greenhaus, 2017). So in order to maximize the satisfaction level of the employees and keep them interested in the job, the manager shall look after the remuneration, that they get adequately paid. Further talking about the superior support, it refers to the initiation of a good relationship between the superior management and the employees of the organization. The superior management shall create a healthy environment in the organization by initiating communication in the organization. They shall also look after their queries and resolve them so that the employees feel that the company also cares about the employees of the organization. This process reduces the negativity in the organization and increases the productivity as well. Superior support also introduces employer-employee relationship in the organization due to which the employee feels that their job is secured. The attitude of the employees forms the working environment in the organization. And the working environment of the organization is formed by the attitudes of employees (Baird, Tung, Yu, 2017). Both the aspects are co-related with each other, as if the environment in the organization is good then employees will automatically get motivated to work better, an if employees initiate positive working attitude then the working culture will become positive. Lastly, job security is another important aspect of job satisfaction which helps the company to retain the employees in the particular job. Job security refers to the process in which the employee is not at the risk of losing their job due to which they get satisfied with the services of the organization. Thus, if the employees are having job security then it is easy for the company to retain them and produce output from their work. It is very important for the manager of the organization to look after the aspect that the employee with whom they are working is committed to the work and their organization. As organization commitment refers to the process in which an employee is committed or loyal towards the activities which they perform for the organization. They always implement actions which are good and suitable for the growth of the organization. The organization is good indicator of the behavior of the employees towards their job. There are basically three components of the organization commitment mainly, affective, continuance and normative commitment. Affective commitment refers to the desire of an employee to stay in a particular job; it is their want to stay in the organization because of their affection towards the organization (Horwitz Horwitz, 2017). Further continuance commitment refers to the needs of an employee to stay in the particular organization and that need should be continuous. Further, t he normative commitment refers to the feeling of employees which initiates them to stay in a particular job. The methodology of organizational commitment helps the manager of an organization to understand the importance of employees in an organization. as if the employee will not be committed toward their job and organization then will starting shifting their jobs due to which employee turnover in the organization would increase; resulting to which a bad image circulate in the market of the organization (Ahmad, Athar, Hussain, 2016). Thus, in the limelight of above event, it shall be noted that attitude of an employee highly focuses on the growth of the organization. So, the manager shall initiate to take care of the interest of employees so that organization achieves its objectives. References Ahmad, J., Athar, M.R. Hussain, M., (2016).
